German Peach Kuchen

1/2 cup milk, scalded
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
1 package dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 egg
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 or 4 medium peaches, peel and sliced
3 tablespoons firmly-packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Combine milk, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of butter and cool until luke warm.  Dissolve yeast in the warm water.  Add milk liquid, egg, and 1 1/4 cups flour to the yeast and beat mixture until smooth.  Add remaining flour and beat well.  Pour mixture into a greased baking pan (13 x 9 x 2").  Arrange sliced peaches in the batter.  Mix the brown sugar and nutmeg and sprinkle over the peaches.  Melt the remaining butter and drizzle over the peaches.  Let rise, while covered, until it doubles in bulk.  Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.  Makes 16 servings.
